Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma
Chromophobe RCC is a rare (around 5%) form of RCC. Found in the filtering tubes of the kidneys, chromophobe RCC appears larger in size. Develops randomly or because of an inherited condition. Rarely spreads beyond the kidney.
Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma
Papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) is the second most common type (about 15%). Forms in the filtering tubes of the kidney. May develop randomly or because of an inherited condition.
- Type 1 PRCC is slow growing.
- Type 2 PRCC is less common but faster growing and more aggressive.
Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinomas
Four out of five adult kidney cancers (80%) are ccRCC. It is called “clear cell” because under a microscope the cells look like clear bubbles. It may develop randomly or due to an inherited condition such as von Hippel-Lindau disease.
